Driver Hits Wall Of Post Office, Injures Three

January 3, 2006

Three post office employees were injured on Thursday after a 78-year-old motorist drover her car through the glass wall of their office. According to authorities, the woman had just dropped off mail when she lost control of her car.

Apparently the woman was making a U-turn in the parking lot and pressed on the gas instead of the brake, said a spokesman from the police department.

The woman's gold Honda Accord went crashing through the wall of the building, bringing with it, a piece of the iron fencing from outside. The car plowed through one office and continued on into another wall and came to stop in the rear office.

The accident took place in the 1500 block of West Base Line at around 9:55 a.m.

The woman and the three employees were all taken to hospitals to undergo treatment. Doctors said that their injuries ranged from simple scrapes to a serious leg injury.

Rescue crews responded to the accident and found two of the victims beneath the car and the other in the rear office. The Honda was elevated in order to free the trapped victims.

One of the victims trapped under the car sustained a major leg injury.

According to police, the woman was taken to the hospital to be examined but was not injured.

Police will not be pressing charges against the woman for anything besides a traffic violation.
