A Taft man is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in Bakersfield on two counts of vehicular manslaughter in connection with a crash last year that killed two Porterville residents.
Alex Gonzales faces the two misdemeanor counts in addition to charges of driving on a suspended license and failure to provide proof of insurance in connection with the December 5 crash on Highway 65 north of Bakersfield.
Several other people, including Gonzalez and two passengers, were seriously injured in the accident.
The California Highway Patrol said Gonzales was driving south on Highway 65 between Merced Avenue and Lerdo Highway when he attempted to pass a big rig.
When Gonzalez's vehicle entered the northbound lanes, it was directly in the path of a car driven by Benestiano Carranza, 51, of Porterville.
Carranza and a passenger were killed.
