Pedestrian Killed In Late-night Accident In Orangevale

March 23, 2006

A 70-year-old man was struck and killed a minute after midnight Monday in Orangevale after a 17-year-old driver struck him, officials said.

California Highway Patrol spokeswoman Lizz Dutton said that the teen was driving a Lexus RS330 at about 25 mph in a pouring rain southbound on San Juanita Avenue.

Dutton said the driver did not have time to stop when he came upon the man, who was walking in the street just north of Oak Avenue.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Coroner's officials had not released his identity Monday afternoon as they sought to notify his family of the death.

The collision is still under investigation. Dutton said a street light was apparently not working at the location.
