The Calaveras County is no longer under fire after a claim filed against it wase rejected by the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors.
The Board rejected a claim filed by Steven Snowden, of Murphys. Snowden had filed the lawsuit in connection with his involvement in the June 2004 vehicle accident on French Gulch Road which claimed the life of a member of the Black Irish Band.
Kenneth Darby was riding his motorcycle in the oncoming direction when he collided with Snowden's pickup as they went around a blind curve.
The lawsuit named the county as a defendant because they did not properly maintain the road at the blind curve.
Snowden is facing a lawsuit of his own filed by Darby's family. They filed a case in civil court for the wrongful death of Darby.
A criminal charge was filed by the Calaveras County District Attorney's Office for misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charges. Snowden's trial will begin on December 8th. His criminal trial in Calaveras County Superior Court is scheduled to begin Dec. 8.
